The Inspiration Behind Bliss Dental Spa: Overcoming Dental Anxiety
Insecurities and the Smile I Tried to Hide
From a young age, I was very insecure about my smile and struggled with dental anxiety from an early age. Every photo, every laugh, every mirror reminded me of the smile I wanted to hide. As a result, many of my teeth were in the wrong places and I had to undergo orthodontic treatment for three years. For years before and during my orthodontic treatment, I smiled with my lips pressed together, afraid of being judged by my friends.
Overcoming Fear at the Orthodontist
During middle school, I became even more insecure about the metal in my mouth and developed a fear of the orthodontist. I loved my orthodontist as a person, but the pain I went through every time my wires were tightened was intolerable. However, my orthodontist noticed the suffering I was going through and helped me through it. Over time, she helped me overcome my dental anxiety through comforting me and giving me control through every appointment. When the day came that I got my braces off (May 18, 2020…a day I will never forget), I felt amazing. However, I knew that I would no longer see my orthodontist regularly anymore, and I was slightly sad. Ultimately, she had helped me overcome my fears, anxiety, and insecurities concerning my smile.

The Lesson That Changed My View of Dentistry
Because of this, my orthodontic experience taught me something I’ve never forgotten: healing dental anxiety takes more than technical skill, it takes compassion. The orthodontist who helped me didn’t just fix my smile; she took time to listen and make me feel safe. In other words, her kindness changed my perception of dentistry entirely. Little did I know that I would pursue dentistry as my lifelong career.
Seeing Dental Anxiety Through My Patients’ Eyes
Years later, as I began shadowing dental professionals in my undergraduate years of college, I saw firsthand how so many patients share the same fears I once had. For example, many of these patients hadn’t been to the dentist in years because their anxiety held them back — something the American Dental Association recognizes as a common challenge for many adults.
Consequently, each time I saw a patient with dental anxiety, I was reminded of what it felt like to be in their place, and I knew I wanted to be the kind of dentist who could make that anxiety disappear. I wanted to change the negative stereotype that dentistry had surrounding it. I didn’t want patients to feel like they hated to come see me or any dentist!

The Birth of Bliss Dental Spa
As a result, that’s where the idea for Bliss Dental Spa was born. I wanted to create an environment where patients could feel completely at ease. I envisioned a practice that blended top-quality dental care with the serenity and relaxation of a spa. Specifically, from soothing scents and warm blankets to safe communication and personalized comfort options, every detail of Bliss Dental Spa is designed to calm anxiety and restore confidence.
